What is Alien registrations card?


Alien Registration and Korean Visa

Identification card is issued for Korean who is more than 17 years old in Korea.
In case of foreign people who are staying in Korea, 
there is identification card for foreigners too.
This Identification is called as Alien registrations card.
The Alien registrations card is mandatory in order to stay more than 90 days in Korea legally.
<Alien Registration>

It is required to register your stay within 90 days from the date of your entry. Or in case of foreign people who had an authorization for changing status of stay, it is required to do alien registration on the date when the authorization has been given.
EX) For Canadian B-2 visa (Tourist/Transit visa) holder who has been stayed 5 month and like to change his/her status of stay, this visa holder must do alien registration when he/she applies for chage status of stay.

Who need to do alien registration?
1. Any foreigners who plan to stay in Korea more than 90 days.
2. Any foreigners who was born in Korea but lost Korean nationality and wish to stay in Korea more than 90 days.

 *Exceptions
-Foreigners and their family who currently work for international agreement, diplomacy, and international government affairs.
-Foreign people who currently participate in the field of diplomacy, industry, and national defense and their family.
- Other foreigners who are appointed by the Minister of Justice.
- Canadian who has D-1, D-6, F-1, F-3, or G-1 and plan to stay in Korea less than 6 month.
- Underage foreigners who is younger than 17 years of age.
